Your network access was interrupted. To continue, close the database and then open it again

The error message "Your network access was interrupted. To continue, close the database and then open it again" had daunted us for quite a few weeks, and this is how: at work we have a Microsoft Access Database that is accessible by a handful of users, and that have been working perfectly well all the time

The database was stored on a  NetApp FAS2552 running ONTAP 9.6P5. We recently upgraded our back end storage and moved the database to a NetApp FAS2750 running ONTAP 9.101 P8, and ever since we move the database to the new storage, every few minutes the database was getting disconnected giving us this error message: "Your network access was interrupted. To continue, close the database and then open it again"

Your network access was interrupted. To continue, close the database and then open it again

We investigated the elusive Your network access was interrupted. To continue, close the database and then open it again using different scenarios, trying to solve this issue, ensuring all the network connections were fine, the trunks in the Cisco switches properly configured, etc. Could it be an issue with the new NetApp FAS2750? We deep dive and dig into logs, tested the shares again and again and could not solve the issue....until we finally did

The problem was the drive map setting on the GPO from where the database was run. We had it originally configured to be "Update", but to speed up the connections to the new NetApp we modified the setting to be "Replace", as a means to enforce the new connection to our domain computers

Your network access was interrupted GPO replace drive mapping

We put the setting back to "Update", and when running the database from inside a network drive mapped under that setting, the issue did not longer appeared

Your network access was interrupted. To continue, close the database and then open it again. Update drive mapping

How weird is that ah? Glad that we managed to solve it, and I hope this article helps you if you are in trouble too. If you have enjoyed reading this article about Your network access was interrupted. To continue, close the database and then open it again, you might like this other one too:
