Astrological Planetary Transits
If you are interested in Astrological Planetary Transits as a method of predicting events and situations in your life, I invite you to create a Transit Table for your Astral Chart, also called Birth Chart. This is a very useful idea from the great French Astrologer Henry J. Gouchon, that I read on his book "Las Previsiones Futuras". The principle is to have a table of transit so that you can map the passing of the planets as they cross the firmament. It takes a bit of time to create this table, but once it is done you can use it for all of your life. Of course, you can also create transit tables for other people if you are curious about their transits too
- Create an Astrological Planetary Transits table
- Populate the table with objects
- Position the conjunction symbol to indicate where the objects are on the birth chart
- Populate the table with all the major astrological aspects
- Astrological planetary transits calculations for slow planets
- Adding Jupiter and Saturn to the Astrological Planetary Transits table
- Adding Mars to the Astrological Planetary Transits table
- Conclusion
1. Create an Astrological Planetary Transits table
Let's begin by download a template in Microsoft WORD format for the Astrological Planetary Transits table by clicking on this link
2. Populate the table with objects
Once you got the table transfer to Microsoft Word, start by filling on each one of the well defined column the degree in which the planets and objects in your Astral Chart are. For example, in my case I put the Sun () at 5 degrees because it was at 5 degrees of Sagittarius (
) when I was born. If you happens to have two objects on the same degree, obviously put them on the same cell, that means that they had an exact aspect at the moment of your birth. For example, on my chart I put Saturn (
) and Neptune (
) at 2 degrees because they had an exact opposition when I was born. By doing this you can see the accumulation of objects on the "sensitive degrees", those that will be most affected by any transit, like on my example degrees 1 to 2 degrees, and also the 12 degree, where I have 2 conjunctions. A trick to complete the table quickly with objects, is by filling in the left-hand side column only, and once it is completed simply copy and paste it into the right-hand side column. The final result of your transit table should look like this, with the planets and objects you want to track on each one of the highlighted columns:
3. Position the conjunction symbol to indicate where the objects are on the birth chart
Next, start adding the conjunctions symbol () in the cell where the object resides on your astral chart, for example, like on my case when I was born with Sun in Sagittarius (
), I will put the conjunction into that zodiacal sign, thus indicating that any planet that transit that degree will be in conjunction to my natal Sun. If you happen to have 2 or more objects on the same degree, like on my example I have an opposition (
) Saturn Neptune both in degree number 2 (Saturn in Gemini and Neptune in Sagittarius), add the relevant symbol (opposition, trine, sextil, etc) into the cell that is relevant to that degree you are adding. Take the moment as well to colour those cells that have more than one object, indicating with that colour that those degrees and areas of the zodiac are sensitive to any planetary transit for your personal astral chart
4. Populate the table with all the major astrological aspects
You guessed right! To complete our Astrological planetary transits table, start adding to the relevant degree cells the aspect symbol that a planet transiting that cell will cause to the object that is related to that degree. For example, for my Sun in 5 degrees of Sagittarius, I'll add the opposition symbol for 5 degrees of Gemini, the sextil (*) for both Libra () and Aquarius (
), the square (
) for the mutable signs of Virgo (
) and Piscis (
), and finally the lovely trine (
) for the fire fellows of Aries (
) and Leo (
). Be systematic, and start doing one object at a time otherwise you'll get mad. You should end up with a table like the one below, where I've also coloured those cells with more than one aspect
5. Astrological planetary transits calculations for slow planets
Finally, to calculate the Astrological planetary transit visit a website where astronomical ephemerides are published with a mind oriented to Astrology, something like Astrotheme or Astro-Seek, and start from the slow planets, Pluto, Neptune and Uranus, taking note of where they move across the zodiac. For example, if we analyse the year of 2023 we can see that the slow planets, regardless of how often they fall into retrograde motion, will move across these degrees:
- 2023 – Pluto transits between 27 Capricorn to 0 Aquarius
- 2023 – Neptune transits between 23 Pisces to 27 Pisces
- 2023 – Uranus transits between 15 Taurus to 23 Taurus
Assign a specific colour to each one of the planets to visually differentiate them. For my example I put purple for Pluto, dark blue for Neptune and light blue for Uranus. By having a simple look at the table, we can see that the transit of the slow planets will cause a challenging year for me: Pluto doesn't make significant aspects but both Neptune and Uranus "wake up" squares that are on my chart as they make their transits. Uranus touches a square to my MC at some point in the year 2023 while Neptune does it to Mercury and my Vertex, so I guess my work environment may be affected during this year. I will not recommend anyone to change jobs under this configuration. Using this method you can also see that early 2024 Neptune will "wake up" a square to my natal Venus, indicating confusion in the love atmosphere. On the table below, I've marked this incoming square with a red circle, and though that transit won't happen technically until 2024, I may "feel" its presence during late 2023 as Neptune approaches that degree
As you can see, using this table as a method to organise and detect astrological planetary transits, you can see ahead what challenging aspects the planets will "wake up" as they move across the firmament
6. Adding Jupiter and Saturn to the Astrological Planetary Transits table
If you want to further develop your personal table of astrological planetary transits, you can add the transits for both Jupiter and Saturn. That will be an interesting excessive to do because it will tell you which aspects the demanding Saturn will wake up, and which one the mostly benevolent Jupiter will influence. For my particular transit table of 2023, and again ignoring whether they go into retrograde motion or not, these are the degrees in the zodiac that Jupiter and Saturn will visit during their transits
- 2023 – Saturn transits between 23 Aquarius to 7 Pisces
- 2023 – Jupiter transits between 2 Aries to 15 Taurus
We can see that Saturn "wakes up" the two sextiles of the conjunction Mercury-Venus I had on my chart, meaning that at least my mind and relations will be solid for 2023, counteracting the effect of square that Neptune does to these two personal planets. However, I'm also expecting during 2023 the squares of Saturn to my natal Saturn as well as my natal Neptune, and shortly after a square to my natal Sun, looking all very grim, with difficulties and lack of confidence. Let's see how 2023 develops for me, but yeah, it looks like a challenging year. Fortunately, Jupiter, on its transit for Aries and Taurus, will "wake up" a few trines that are fundamentally beneficial, like a trine to my Sun meaning luck and optimism, and a trine to my MC that may counteract the square that Uranus does to it (indicating perhaps an abrupt change within the professional environment but with a happy ending at the end), and finally the lovely trine that it does to my Mercury-Venus conjunction. So yes, it looks like that, in spite of the difficulties, luck and optimism will be with me during 2023, yeeeeha!
On the table below, I've added Saturn with brown colour and Jupiter with a more optimistic green colour
Notice that on the table above I've marked "yellow" the degree of Taurus 15, this is because at some point during 2023 both Jupiter and Uranus will pass for that degree and may even be in conjunction. Fortunately, I have no aspect to be "awaken" on my chart for that degree, but if I had I would definitely would have to pay attention to that possible conjunction of Jupiter and Uranus during 2023
7. Adding Mars to the Astrological Planetary Transits table
Pushing even forward, you can add the planet Mars to your astrological planetary transit table and see how its energy fit within the year. That will help you determine where your vitality will be focuses on, and situations where accidents of discussions can happen. Of course, it cannot be any other way, and for Mars I've given it the red colour to map its transit on my astrological planetary transit table. After checking the transits of Mars, this is how it will move during this year:
- 2023 – Mars transits between 9 Gemini and 26 Sagittarius
It is rather peculiar to note that Mars does not overlap on its transit with any of the other previously studied planets; perhaps that is a good thing for this year, indicating that its energy and dynamism is flowing free, without being dragged by any planetary conjunction. When I put Mars transits on my table, I can see that during this year Mars will pass over those two sensitive locations of my chart, the 2 degree and the 12 degree, making a T square for my natal opposition of Saturn - Neptune when it is at 2 degrees of Virgo, mid-July 2023, an interesting week for me indeed. And in theory, my energy levels should be at their best when Mars is in 12 of Cancer, making a trine to both my Ascendant and my natal Mars, which will be mid-April 2023. As you can see, creating a personal astrological planetary transit is a great way to find out what aspects to look for in the heavens for the near future
By using this table method of Astrological Planetary Transits, you can see at a glance what to expect for present year as well as for the future. It takes a bit of time to create such table, but one you are using to it, you know exactly that transits to look for during the incoming months. On the objects columns, you can also add the cuspid of the hoses, so you will know when a planet is in transit or about a transit a particular house in your birth chart
